Failed Banks In 2009 1/10
FDIC closed 140 banks in 2009, roughly 50% more than all of the banks closed in
the last 15 years combined. By contrast, only two annuity carriers entered state
control, Shenandoah Life in Virginia and California's Golden State Mutual (which
had been in rocky shape for some time).
